I really think we were a little too good at keeping the fact that we were dating on the down low. Talk about a shock factor. I had no idea 800 people even looked at our facebook page until we posted the oh-so-famous "engaged to Daniel Ockey." I think we could win an award for the best kept social media secret of all time. I literally lost my voice from telling the story so many times. But now we are engaged so I have permission to post my feelings for the world right? Right..
I am honestly so incredibly grateful for the person he is. I was not the easiest one to pursue-- feelings under lock and key, broken hearted, friend zoning, noncommittal, unsure about the future, the whole sha-bang. And somehow Dan stuck with it. I had never felt so respected, understood or cared for until Dan. He didn't let me give half of my heart even when I wanted to. He wanted to know every little piece of me and man was he dang good at it. I swear he has some mind reading powers or something because he can tell a good day hello from a doozy day hello in the first 30 seconds of us talking. He knows how to just hold you and tell you, you are enough when your spaghetti thoughts are going a mile an hour but don't want to show that you are feeling weak. He makes you feel empowered to live your dreams and shoot for the stars. He is willing to sacrifice so many things and because of that we are both able to fulfill our dreams- together. He loves with every fiber of his being. His love is deeper than flowers and chocolate but the kind that just makes you feel like you are truly special and that you have distinct value. He lives his life for God and, because of that, has a deep passion for life that just oozes out of him whenever you talk to him. He is a builder of people. You know that guy from the validation video on youtube? That is him. Seriously. I am not kidding when I say I think my friends like him more than me because he can make anyone feel like a million bucks. You want to tell him exciting things because he will be excited with you. He treats his Mom and sisters like angels and has the sweetest relationship with his little brother. He will play with them. Talk with them. Validate them. Everyone looks up to him and wants to be like him. He is my rock and his stability has already been such a strength in my life. He is truly one of a kind.
No doubt about it I am #teamdan all the way.
So why am I telling you all of this? Is it brag on your fiance day? Well.. maybe a little... I also just want to show you that guys like this are REAL. I know we still have a lot to work on in our relationship and neither of us are nowhere near perfect (although sometimes I wonder about that one on his end) but they exist. I promise. This is just a teeny tiny glimpse of the type of person Dan is. It is easy to get down about the world or lose hope in finding the man of your dreams especially on days like today when scrolling through your social media feed. But, hold out. You deserve to be loved to the very core. You are amazing and have value that you cannot always see. Wait for the love that really sees and appreciates the deep you. It is worth it.
